Choices & Commitments

Rain, rain, rain. More than 24 hours of continuous showers. Don’t get me wrong…it’s a good thing! The tiny buds on the trees are now tiny leaves and my grass needs a mowing. This morning I thought it seemed brighter and we were done with the wet stuff at O dark thirty as I headed out for my power walk but nay nay. Halfway down the sidewalk from my house to the street, I realized I would be soaked by the time I got to the corner so I turned around and, much to my dog’s disappointment, went back inside.

Here’s the interesting part, the part where I get to choose what happens next. Choices like, pour a cup of coffee and settle into my comfy chair to write and read, or pull out my walking pad and get after it or put on my raincoat and get back out there. This is when I had a little ah-ha moment. Your commitments determine your choices. I am committed to my daily exercise of choice, my powerwalk. I like it. It makes me feel good. I grabbed my raincoat. The walking pad would have worked too but I prefer the fresh air, the woods, the birds so long as there isn’t ice on the path. The coffee would wait, my commitment drove my choice. What are you committed to? Not sure? Check your choices, they are a compass pointing to what you value. Grab your raincoat and go get what you want most today.
